You might look like you have it all together, but on the inside, you're exhausted, overwhelmed, and internally falling apart. You're the strong onThe dependable one. The one who keeps going no matter what. But underneath all of that, something is hurting, and you're tired of carrying it alone.

If you're a woman in Alabama navigating grief, trauma, or a life that no longer feels like your own, you're in the right place.

Many of the women I work with are high-functioning, deeply caring, and used to putting everyone else first. They're not falling apart on the outside, but they're struggling with unresolved feelings, complicated grief, trauma that resurfaces without warning, or the weight of a major life change. If that sounds like you, I want you to know: I see you, and this work is for you.

CLINICAL EXPERTISE & BACKGROUND
I'm Emma Quadlander-Goff, Ph.D. LPC, NCC, a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor specializing in grief and trauma therapy for adult women.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
My journey in this work began with a Bachelor's in Psychology from Southwestern University, followed by a Master's degree in Counseling and Psychology with a specialty in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Troy University. I earned my Doctorate in Counselor Education from Auburn University, where my research focused on grief, bereavement, and the training of counselors. This combination of advanced training gives me both deep clinical knowledge and a commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in the mental health field.

RESEARCH & CONTRIBUTIONS
I have a strong research background in prolonged grief and bereavement. I've authored publications in peer-reviewed journals including OMEGA: Journal of Death and Dying and presented my work at national and international conferences. I also received the 2025 Alabama Counseling Association Research Award, a recognition of both my clinical experience and my dedication to advancing the field.

Before founding Tri-State Counseling & Consulting, I served as an Assistant Professor, where I trained emerging clinicians in evidence-based trauma and grief treatment. Today, I serve as the Co-Editor of the state counseling journal, the past-president of the Alabama Association for Specialists in Group Work, and the Co-Chair of a committee for the Association for Specialists in Group Work, keeping me connected to the broader counseling community and informed by the latest clinical research.

HOW I WORK
I use a range of evidence-based modalities tailored to your needs:
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) for processing difficult emotions
  • Narrative Therapy for reclaiming your story
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation, impulse control, and distress tolerance
  • Gottman Method for couples work

I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I meet you where you are and build a treatment plan that honors your unique experience.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO PERFORM HERE
You don't have to pretend. You don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to show up. I offer counseling services in-person and virtually so you can access support from where you're comfortable
